It is indeed clobbering time.

The first trailer for Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” dropped Tuesday, giving fans a first look at the longtime superhero family from the comic books debuting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And things are very retrofuturistic, a nod to the Fantastic Four’s 1960s-era origins.

“First Steps” (in theaters July 25) follows a quartet of astronauts given extraordinary abilities courtesy of cosmic rays: super-stretchy leader Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), invisible woman Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), human torch Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and rock monster Ben Grimm, aka The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The trailer showcases each of the FF members in a peek at the adventure to come, which pits them against planet-devouring villain Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his sleek herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).

The Fantastic Four first appeared in Marvel Comics in November 1961 and their popularity paved the way for Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men and the Avengers. “First Steps” is the fourth big-screen adaptation, following most recently 2005’s “Fantastic Four” (which featured future Captain America Chris Evans as Johnny Storm) and a critically reviled 2015 reboot with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan.
